Program Statement

Learning Happens Home Child Care Agency is a private organization focused on providing responsive care that promotes the health, safety and well-being of children. As licensed by the Ministry of Education’s policies and procedures, we view children as ‘being competent, capable, curious and rich in potential.’

We especially value children’s curiosity and sense of exploration and play to enhance their ability to self-regulate. Our educators recognize and provide an individualized program and support for each child as they learn at their own pace.

In our programs we strive to:

  • Plan for positive learning environments and experiences
  • Provide child-initiated and adult-supported experiences
  • Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers, and staff
  • Involve local community partners to support the children, families and staff
  • Foster the engagement of parents through ongoing communication about the program and their children
  • Build strong, trusting, collaborative relationships with parents
  • Utilize the Ministry’s Standard Home Visitors Checklist
Play & Inquiry Based Programming

We believe children need time to explore through play and have opportunities for natural inquiry. Our programs are developed with awareness of the children’s interests, individual needs and strengths, and goals based on input from parents.

According to our pedagogy ‘How does learning happen?’ children learn best when they are:

  • Actively involved and choose to pursue their own interests
  • Able to explore and manipulate open ended and process-oriented materials
  • Able to express and talk about their feelings and emotions while discovering
  • Supported by the educators as being their partners in shaping the learning experience
Educators as Co-Learners

Children learn best when they have supportive educators who can encourage them to learn by being their partners in the daily experiences provided.

Our Home Child Care Providers and the Home Visitors design the daily routines to provide a predictable environment that is nurturing and supports children’s health and well-being. Our Providers also collaborate with specialized community resources to support and implement the Individual Program Plan (IPPs) to support the diverse needs and abilities of children of all ages.

Most importantly, our Home Child Care Providers work with families like yours to understand your child’s needs and create a blend of culture and child development to reflect the four foundations of HDLH.

Environment as Third Teacher

Our home child care environments are set up in a way that will help each child develop to their full potential. The environment where children play is designed to encourage the children’s imagination, sense of curiosity and creativity on a daily basis.

Our Home Visitors and Providers set short-term and long-term learning goals for each child in care and provide experiences to support children in their goal achievement.

Daily outdoor play is an important element in helping children develop their physical skills. Offering a variety of different activities including indoor and outdoor play, as well as rest or quiet time to children will help them develop physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.
