How long does it take to become a Licenced Home Child Care provider?

It takes 4 to 6 weeks to become a Licensed Home Child Care Provider. Providers first have to go through our screening process. They are then selected and trained on CCEYA regulations and agency policies and procedures.

What does the screening process consist of?

Screening process is as follows:

  • When a provider sends in an application, the agency’s designated staff will look it over and do an initial interview over the phone.
  • After the initial interview is passed, the agency’s designated staff will book a time to visit the provider’s home to assess the space and the provider in their home.
  • Once the home is approved, agency’s staff will request the provider to provide a clear Criminal reference check (Vulnerable Sector Screening), up to date immunization records including TB test, and Standard First Aid Certification (two full days; infant and child CPR) issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
  • Once the above three documents are received, the providers are given training on CCEYA regulations and agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Once the training is done, their house will be checked again for inspection to see if the programing to be provided for children is up to the ministry and agency standard.
  • Once the last inspection is approved and there are no non-compliances, the providers are ready to start their business.

Can a provider work with another provider in one home under the same contract?

No. Providers cannot extend their contract to another person because the contract agreement signed is only between provider and agency, and provider is solely responsible for children’s supervision and no one else.

How long does it take to reach the full capacity of 6 children?

The timeline varies, the providers might get the children within a month and some might get all 6 children within three months.  It depends on demand and need of child care in the area.

“I have been running my daycare for over 20 years. I started as a private daycare, but last year due to COVID I decided to take a different path. I heard about Learning Happens from a friend of mine, and soon I met with Nadia. Right off the bat I knew I would benefit a lot from working with this company. In the time that I have been working with them there is so much knowledge I have gained, and a lot more confidence in myself as well. Nadia and her team are incredible, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and supported. Nadia is always there to answer my questions and to help me with any obstacles that I face. I cannot wait to continue my journey with Learning Happens. I’m so proud to be a part of this team.”
